Aberdare National Park provides a vastly different experience to the country’s more famous savannah reserves like the Masai Mara. Created to protect the Aberdare Mountains of the Central Highlands, it comprises two ecosystems unusual to Kenya: a moorland plateau and a swathe of dense rainforest.
The result is that visitors on safari in Aberdare National Park can expect not only unique and spectacular landscapes, but will also enjoy good game viewing particularly in the salient area – the eastern forested section.
The Samburu National Reserve terrain is wild, rugged and beautiful. Have an afternoon game drive to sight the resident bush elephants, gerenuk, beisa, reticulated giraffe and grevy's zebra, oryx, and the blue-necked Somali Ostrich which are very rare elsewhere in the country. This wildlife reserve in northern Kenya known for its unique "Samburu Special Five": the Grevy's zebra, reticulated giraffe, Beisa oryx, Somali ostrich, and gerenuk. The semi-arid landscape is bisected by the Ewaso Ng'iro River, creating a vital oasis for wildlife, which also includes large elephant herds, big cats, and over 450 species of birds. Visitors can also experience the culture of the Samburu people, known for their vibrant traditional attire.
Located in the Great Rift Valley, Lake Nakuru is a shallow, alkaline lake where both lesser and greater flamingos can be found in vast numbers, sometimes literally turning the water pink! The lake varies in size from five to 30 square kilometres – depending on rainfall – and is rich in birdlife; there are 400 resident species on the lake and in the surrounding national park.
Black and white rhinos thrive in the surrounding national park, which also has its fair share of Cape buffalo, African wild dog, zebra, eland, waterbuck and lion.
In recent years Nakuru has attracted fame for the high number of leopard sightings, and the rare Rothschild’s giraffe. Its acacia and euphorbia forests are havens for animals during the heat of the day, making Nakuru an excellent wildlife-viewing destination, while the hippo pool is a favourite spot for picnics.
In Masai mara you'll spend 2 days to discover the savannah's spectacular populations. Here, the predator likes to mask and hide in long grasses to ambush and surprise it's prey. You can also witness the territorial rivalry between different species as a never ending game. Because of the reliable rains and plenty of vegetation in this grassland, there are many herbivorous followed by hunting animals like hyena, wild dogs, cheater, secretory bird, python, crocodile in the river, hippo, African Eagle and all kinds of birds.
Discover the "Big Five" 'from the towering Elephant heard, the interesting rhinoceros, The pride of lions with cubs. Be lucky to see the leopard climbing the tree.
Masai Mara is the spot for the yearly migration of millions of Wildebeest's crossing the Mara river.
